What types of injuries are common in car accidents?

A number of factors will determine what type of injury a car accident victim suffers as well as the severity of the injuries that they sustain. San Antonio residents who are involved in vehicle collisions are strongly encouraged to seek medical help after their incidents to determine the type and extent of their unique injuries. Their injuries may be compensable if liability for the accident falls on other parties involved in the crashes.

In 2012, around 1.6 million people were injured in car accidents, while around 30,000 people died. This is a significant amount of harm sustained by Americans due to automobile collisions; the total cost of all of these losses is around $277 billion annually.

The injuries suffered by accident victims include harm to practically all parts of their bodies. Head injuries, such as concussions and brain damage, are common when victims hit their heads on steering columns and dashboards. Neck injuries, like whiplash, often occur when victims are violently jarred from the impacts of their crashes.

Shoulder, chest and back injuries can occur when crash victims are wrenched in their car seats and their spines suffer harm. A victim's limbs can be hurt if those body parts are in the path of impact and feet are often hurt when the front of victims' cars are crashed.

These are only some of the injuries car accident victims can sustain, and readers are asked to discuss their particular cases with an attorney who can assess the likelihood of prevailing on the victim's claims.
