Car accident becomes inferno, 4 victims lose their lives

Four individuals lost their lives on a Texas highway when a speeding vehicle crashed into their car and caused their vehicle to burst into flames. The car accident happened near Hempstead on Highway 290 and occurred in the early hours of the morning.

Although an investigation into the accident is underway, law enforcement officials believe that the speeding vehicle collided with the victims' car and caused the deadly incident. The victims were not discovered inside the car until firefighters were able to extinguish the flames.

The driver of the speeding vehicle was also injured in the crash but did survive. It is unknown if the driver will face criminal charges in the incident, though any criminal case that develops from this tragedy would not preclude the family members of the victims from initiating civil lawsuits against the driver responsible.

Personal injury law provides victims with different theories on which to base civil claims that, if litigated successfully, can provide them with compensation for their losses. One of those theories is wrongful death, which is a legal option that only the surviving relatives of deceased victims may utilize. Though every case must be evaluated on its own facts and merits, wrongful death cases can often be brought by children, spouses, and parents of victims for the recovery of funeral expenses, pain and suffering, and other accident-related damages.

This senseless loss of life is heartbreaking. As the victims' families pick up the pieces of their lives, they may have a difficult time considering what legal rights they may possess. Grieving is a critical step to moving past an accident such as the one discussed in this post, though statutes of limitation can stop a victim from filing a civil claim if they wait too long.
