Semi-truck involved in crash with school bus

Many Texas students relish the opportunity to school-related field trips. Not only do the excursions provide kids with a chance to experience additional enrichment on the topics they are learning about in school but such trips also get them out of their classrooms for a break from the books. However, recently a group of Texas fourth graders had a very scary experience when the bus they were riding on during a field trip was involved in a crash with a semi-truck.

The details of the crash are still under review and an accident investigation may shed some light on exactly what happened, but the incident occurred on U.S. 69 in Lumberton, Texas. Forty-four children, four adult chaperones, and one driver were on board the school bus when it was involved in a multi-vehicle accident. The bus crashed with a large truck as well as a pick-up truck. In all 23 children were hurt. One of the children had to be taken to a trauma center for their serious injuries.

Large trucks like semis pose dangers on the roads that are different than the hazards posed by standard sized vehicles. Since trucks cannot stop or maneuver quickly they can make driving perilous for others on the roads. In some cases distractions or exhaustion can hamper drivers' operating skills and can turn semis into rolling threats.

The children involved in this terrible crash will hopefully recover and return to their school to learn and thrive. However, they may face challenges as they recuperate and their needs to recover may put pressures on their families. When the cause of this crash is determined, the victims may have rights to sue the responsible parties for the recovery of their losses.
